Martini's -- 08.25.07

This place has become our second home, and we couldn't be more happy about it. Vinny and the staff are fantastic, and the vibe is a great one for a Saturday night. The sound system is top-notch, and the food is excellent. We did the whole night ourselves, which is a rare occurrence. I didn't think I'd have enough stamina to get through all three hours, but at the end I was still ready to play more. Just because I don't drink JD doesn't mean I can't keep up with the rest of you!
--Liz

Sandy filmed some video at the show. Here's us actually getting through "Mama Kin" by Aerosmith:

New England Brewing Co. -- 07.27.07

We've never felt more at home than at the New England Brewing Co. open house. Thanks so much to Rob and Eric for opening up their warehouse and letting the beer flow freely all night. And thanks to everyone who came by to partake in the free "samples" and listen to us play. If you're out in the New Haven area, be sure to ask for Sea Hag, Elm City Lager or some Atlantic Amber. It's delicious!

Corner Pocket -- 01.13.07

We had the pleasure of being part of the Sick Ticket reunion show, as well as Wit's CD release party. It was great to see all our Milford-area friends again. It was a really fun show. We started the night off right, with a packed bar and a good vibe. We were a little rusty, but got through the night OK. The debut of "Hey Joe" went off pretty well, thanks to Tim from Evolution Project's expertise on lead vocals. We'd love to play on that roomy stage again!

You can check out the video from "Hey Joe" on our myspace page -- www.myspace.com/donemamaproudrocks.

In other news, we're all set up in our new practice space, working on some new covers and originals. We've got a busy spring and summer planned. Stay tuned!

Update -- 08.22.05

Wow, it's been quite a busy summer. We've played some great shows in New Haven, New York, Boston, and even the West Haven beach for WPLR. Thanks to everyone who came out to see us this summer. Now as we look to fall, we've got some other fun shows to look forward to.

Speaking of fun shows, Liz and Eric will be tying the knot on October 8th. And you're all invited to Eric's bachelor party! The party is October 1st at the Webster theater in Hartford. Instead of a traditional stag, we will open for the awesome Led Zeppelin tribute band Lez Zeppelin! Eric can't think of a better way to celebrate. So come on down and wish Liz and Eric well. Get your tickets!

Liz's Computer -- 04.06.05

After another great show at Toad's Place with Black 47 and the Lost 45s for St. Patrick's Day, we decided to get on the other side of the stage for a bit. We saw the Black Crowes in New Haven (as Mr. Crowes Garden), where Marc Ford stood where I did on stage 5 nights before. Then we saw them again for their opening night in NYC! It was an awesome time.

Now we're back in the barn working on some new stuff and gearing up for some big summer shows. The threat of snow storms should be over now, so we're looking forward to heading back up to the Hartford area, as well as beyond the Connecticut border. Stay tuned for some show announcements soon.

Hungry Tiger Cafe -- 01.20.05

Thursday shows aren't usually my cup of tea, but we'll make an exception for the Hungry Tiger. It's a great room that totally fits our sound. Marc in his rock star mode had played a show in Vermont the night before, making this his 2nd show in 2 nights in 2 different states and 2 different bands. But he delivered as always, and we had a really fun night.

As Sun's voice hit the wall somewhere in hour three, Chris James stepped up to join us in Led Zeppelin's "Rock & Roll." Thanks Chris! Also, "Sriniva-dawg" made a comeback as Sun bumped into her former co-worker Tina, bringing back that now-stuck nickname. Anyone who sees Sun from now on be sure to greet her as Srinivadawg. Thanks to Tina and everyone else for braving the sub-zero temperatures to come support us. Up next -- writing some more originals and hopefully some recording.
-- Liz

Toad's Place -- 01.08.05 -- with Mountain

The show was awesome!!! We went on right before Mountain, and the crowd was at least 500 people. We played great, and Mountain was incredible. It was such an honor to play with them. Leslie West's voice was as good as it is on the albums. They played a Cream medley that rocked -- Sunshine of Your Love, Crossroads and one other that I forget. We met the bassist (Richie Scarlet -- he is usually a lead guitarist for Sebastian Bach and Ace Frehley), and he complimented us. Not bad. We also had fun hanging out with fellow locals The Lost 45s and Rusty Horse.

Also, in true rock and roll fashion:

  • some kid went off his meds, tried to break into the green room, and got tackled and arrested outside by the cops.
  • the bassist for the band before us (Rusty Horse) got so drunk he puked all over himself and his bass case, then proceeded to walk around for the rest of the night with the bass as if nothing had happened.
  • I got hit on by a guy named Bubba.
  • we snuck beer into the green room in a drum case. The other band was already there with a guitar case full of beer.
  • Jut got recognized today when he went to get his oil changed in East Hartford. It was his first celebrity moment.
-- Liz

Check out more pictures from the show!

Hungry Tiger -- 10.07.04

We've been dying to get in here for a while, and Thursday was our chance. We debuted a few new songs -- Always on the Run, Rock and Roll and American Band, as well as Sun's keyboard prowess. It was a great time and the crowd was fantastic. I must admit I felt ridiculous bopping around while restricted to a chair due to an ankle injury, but it was fun. Can't wait to get back there! Next up, Joe Bonamassa!
-- Liz

Federal Cafe -- 07.17.04

I can't give a review of how awesome we were, because we didn't play. Thanks to the incompetence of the Federal's booking guy Mike, we were one of 5 bands that showed up to play tonight. He had double-booked us. Eric and I left a wedding early to get there, another band came from NY, and yet another band was hoping to make this their CD release party. We decided not to bother with the show and left early.

All of us have bad nights or make mistakes, but Mike's actions are part of a series of inconsistenices, oversights and plain old stupidity. He's "forgotten" how much he said he would pay us, he's lost his schedule and had to re-book, and every time we play there he conveniently forgets if we've ever played there before.

We really like playing the Federal, and the bar staff is fantastic. But as long as Mike is affiliated with the club, we will stay away and give other musicians warnings about the place. Bands in Connecticut do so much beyond making music -- we must bring our own crowd, provide our own sound system, and sometimes even pay to play. We don't have the time to deal with booking agents who don't give us the respect we deserve. After all, we're doing all the work for the club in exchange for nothing more than to let us stand in their corner for 3 hours. Mike's actions and disrespect give the clubs working hard to help musicians a bad name.

My computer -- 06.07.04

Liz here. We've got lots of good news to share with everyone that I couldn't wait to tell everyone.

  • First, we are so psyched to be nominated again for the Hartford Advocate's Grand Band Slam. The winners get to play the annual Grand Band Slam in Hartford in August. It's one night when Hartford comes alive, and we would love your support to get us there. Vote for us here, and be sure to forward the link to all your friends too!

  • Second, if you are within the range of 106.9 WCCC in Hartford, be sure to listen for our commercial. Done Mama Proud is an official "Rock Hard Music Spotlight" band, sponsored by Condomclub.com. We'll be on throughout the day from June 8-20. Turn your radios up!

If you're out of range, click here to listen to the MP3 version of the commercial!

  • Third, let us have it! We've got a brand new Message Board up on the site for you to share your thoughts about DMP, music and other stuff with other DMP fans, family and friends. Add your opinion to the threads already created, or start your own. Anything goes (within reason)!

Toad's Place -- 04.30.04

What can I say? It was another contender for the "best show ever" award! thanks to everyone who came out to support us. We had a great reaction, and Marc even remembered his snare drum this time. We can't wait until the next 70's band blows through town. We'll be there! Hello to the guys from Megahertz who can do metal with the rest of them! And of course thanks to Blue Oyster Cult for putting on a fantastic show! Any band that brings a gong is all right with me.

Missed the show? You should've been there. Check out the pictures to see what you missed!
-- Liz

Paradise Rock Club -- 03.27.04

This was a show we attended, not played. Indigenous is the best blues-rock band you've never seen! Native American brothers Mato Nanji and Pte, along with sister Wandbi play some of the best music this side of Stevie Ray Vaughan, Led Zeppelin, and B.B. King. We caught their show up in Boston last week, and were blown away by how great they were! After the show, we met the band and got a few pics on Anne's camera phone. Not the best quality photos, but we've got memories that we'll never forget! Check out Indigenous's Web site and make sure you see them next time they come to your neck of the woods.
-- Liz

Toad's Place -- 02.06.04

The odds were against us. A week earlier, Liz and Eric's guitars were stolen. Sun was suffering through her third day of a bad cold. There was a "wintry mix" outside to make even getting to the show dangerous.

But it was the best night of our lives! We shared the stage with the legendary Marshall Tucker Band, who certainly did not disappoint. We played to our biggest crowd so far, and everyone had a great time. Thanks so much to everyone who braved the elements to share such a fantastic night with us!
-- Liz

PS -- I got some great pics last night of MTB and us having fun. Check 'em out!

Michel Angelo's -- 01.16.04

We had a great time at one of our favorite places. The free pizza, cheap drinks and great atmosphere were just the beginning. We had a fun set as a prep for our upcoming Toad's Place show, and even better, we really enjoyed the other bands. Midnight Jamboree and In Front both played some great music. For those of you who think there's no original music scene in Connecticut aren't looking hard enough. Once you give original bands a chance, you'll be pleasantly surprised. Thanks to everyone who braved the frigid temperatures for one hot night!
-- Liz

Toad's Place -- 12.17.03

Three words: BEST SHOW EVER!!!! A great thanks to everyone who made it possible. We couldn't have done it without you.

Pictures and more stories coming soon.

Federal Cafe -- 09.27.03

We cruised into the hallowed halls of the Federal Cafe this weekend to let off some steam, kick back and rock out. Which is just what we did. After a bit of a break to work on new material, it felt great to play out. We let our hair down (well, Jut did), and we had a lot of fun. It's nice when an audience will drink a "social" with us.

Before our set, an impromptu band consisting of members of Az Iz and the Ders did a great job on some spur-of-the-moment covers like Black Sabbath and Led Zeppelin. You would've thought they've been together for years.

Thanks to everyone who came out to have some fun. And special thanks to the bartenders over at the Federal, who can pour with the best of them. Stop in and say hi sometime.
-- Liz

Hartford Grand Band Slam -- 08.07.03

What a night! The rain didn't stop the thousands of local music supporters who came out to have a fun time in the capital city. We had a great set at the Brickyard (up 3 flights of stairs), with a great sound system and lighting rig. We definitely felt like rock stars. It was great to see some friends that night too -- Local Honey, Sugarfist, Amnesty Underground, Evolution Project, the Boogie Monsters, Saffron, etc. Thanks again to our family and friends for voting for us, and helping us celebrate tonight!
-- Liz

Dano's Pizzeria -- 06.20.03

Dano's is my kind of joint -- a cool spot hidden out in Groton where domestic beer outnumbers imports and drinking hard is expected. Thanks to Az Iz for busting out some Zep tunes and getting things nice and toasty for us. We rocked for the rest if the night and the crowd was awesome. Thanks to everyone for coming out, especially Sandy and her crew. We look forward to taking Dano's by storm again soon.
-- Fritzer

We received quite a warm welcome in Southeastern CT. It was great to see everyone dancing and having a good time! I'd classify it somewhere between the Boot-Scoot Boogie and the Lambada. And judging from the crowd reaction, we'll be adding "Can't You See" to our regular set list. Sing it Jut! Thanks to Jim for working sound for us, and for providing a great atmosphere to start the weekend off right. We hope to be back there real soon!
-- Liz

Federal Cafe -- 06.06.03

We had to get back to the Federal; it had been almost a week since we were there last. It was a beautiful day for a block party, and for once Hartford was happening! There were thousands of people out tonight, all looking to have a good time and listen to some good music. While some lame-o cover bands played on the streets outside, the Federal took a chance on some great original music.

We had a blast! Who cares if it was 100 degrees in the place? Mile Marker Zero, Evolution Project and Local Honey are three of the best bands around. You must go check them out. It was nice to see such a large crowd come out to support local music! Can't wait to do it again. The Federal is fast becoming home to Done Mama Proud!
--Liz

Federal Cafe -- 05.31.03

Thanks to everyone for all the support at our CD release party! We had a fantastic time. Special thanks to Roswell and Evolution Project for sharing the night with us. Chris and Tim from EP did a great job helping us out with "Can't You See." We ought to jam more often.

We also want to thank everyone for taking the time to vote for us in the Hartford Advocate's Grand Band Slam Awards. If you haven't already, please vote for us in the pop/rock category.
-- Liz

Michael Angelo's -- 3.14.03

We got there to find out that Az Iz was taking over the first slot for the band that cancelled. This was a very pleasant surprise. It was great to play with Tom and the boys again. While the UConn men's basketball team destroyed Syracuse on the TV, Az Iz and the Ders played great sets.

We didn't go on until about 12:30, but there was still a formidable crowd ready to party all night with us. Special thanks to cruise director Mike for promoting the show! We had a great time. Be sure to check out live music Fridays there -- Marla's always got something great cooking!
-- Liz

Webster Underground -- 2.21.03

Any bar where you can have a pizza delivered is a good place to play. We debuted some new originals, as well as some covers. The crowd, especially Bruce, seemed to have a good time also. The parking situation left much to be desired, but it all worked out in the end.

My three favorite local bands played that night, which made it that much better. Thanks so much to the Screwdrivers, Echo Janes and Janie Superstar for providing such fantastic entertainment.
-- Liz

Charlie O's -- 1.31.03

Tonight was the night we became rock stars! It was the coming of age for Done Mama Proud, and thanks to everyone who made the trek up north to share in the fun of it all. Check out the pictures!

Blackbird Studios -- 01.25.03

We headed into the studio this weekend to record nine new tracks for our upcoming CD. Nano at Blackbird Studios is great, and we're having a fantastic time. (Check out some behind-the-scenes pictures!) The CD should be out by early spring, so email Liz to pre-order your copy today!

Jimmy's Seaside -- 11.09.02

We partied in style with our good friends Saffron and Echo Janes. The night was a great musical masterpiece. Everyone put on a killer set. Special thanks to everyone who came out to see us at our final gig of 2002, especially Lisa, who did shots of Jack with Jut. And what would a Jimmy's gig be without a party at Pete's house. Beer pong anyone?

Bobby D's -- 10.26.02

When we walked in and they were playing Stevie Ray Vaughn on the radio, we knew we were gonna have fun! So what if we were the only ones dressed for Halloween? We had such a good time, and Echo Janes once again blew us away. They are SO good, and they recognized our Tesla cover! Thanks to everyone who came out, and special thanks to John the sound man for the awesome system. Can't wait to play with everyone on November 9th!! -- Liz

Webster Underground -- 10.12.02

Sometimes last minute things work out best. We were a late addition to this bill, but it was an absolutely fantastic night all around. We had a miraculous set -- we were totally in the groove. Thanks to Az Iz and the Dures, who both played awesome sets. Wow, can those boys play! Look for us together again soon. -- Liz

Michael Angelo's -- 10.04.02

We found a great new club to play in! The whole staff really supports local music, which is rare, but good to see. Sun and Fritzer were both working through illness, but prevailed like the rock stars they are. We saw a lot of friendly faces in the crowd, so thanks to everyone who came out for the free pizza and great music!

We were blown away by Az-Iz, a great local act you've got to see. Check us out together at the Webster Underground on Saturday, 10.12.02. -- Liz

Webster Underground -- 9.20.02

Rock and roll kids...no other way to describe it. I've heard someone say it ain't pretty but its close enough for rawk and roll. No phrase has been more accurate. Special shout outs to all who mustered up the courage to hit the "other side of the tracks" including (and certainly not limited to) Ryan, Pete, Nick, Rachel, Izzy, Renee, Kevin, Nicole, Craig (Kate and Bethanne even though they missed the whole damn thing) Maria, and Toff (no idea how to spell that one sorry brotha)--oh the list goes on and on. Aside from some technical difficulties...what monitor? A great time was had by all...did I mention the afterparty was slamming? Jut how is your back after sleeping on my front porch? Sun....well we'll just leave it at that. Also a big thanks to the Screwdrivers for having us.

Thanks all we'll see you in a meeting real soon...ya dig? -- Fritzer

Madison Arts Barn -- 8.10.02

Since we practice in a barn, we thought it would make sense to perform in a barn as well. If you haven't been there, it's a great setup -- killer sound and lighting system, smoke machine and even ping pong for in-between sets. We had a real fun time, and we made sure to rock out, although Jut rocked too hard and broke a string. It was also fun to share the stage with our friends in Vitamin Tramp. Go check them out! Special thanks to our fans who made the trek up to Madison even though there was no beer (Jeff, Kristen, the Meunier and Srinivasan clans, Katy, Vinnie, and everyone else). -- Liz

Jimmy's Seaside -- 8.03.02

We always love playing Jimmy's, and this time was no different. Page Hamilton from Helmet had played there the previous night, so the stage was still smoking for us. The night started with a great funk set by Evolution Project, which led to some down-home rock by yours truly. The heart-pounding music was so intense it led to a casualty -- the bass drum head. But we prevailed, and Saffron finished out the night in true pop fashion. We had a great time, and for once it didn't rain. Thanks to everyone who came out, and special thanks to Pete for another awesome after-party. Beer pong anyone?? --Liz

Federal Cafe -- 6.15.02

After almost 3 months out of the spotlight, we burst back onto the scene in full force! We debuted a bunch of new songs, and breathed some new life into some old favorites. It was really fun, and felt good to be playing for an audience again! And the best part -- Jut didn't even break a string this time. The Federal is a great place in the heart of Hartford's nightlife, and I think we gained some new fans.

Special thanks to all of you who supported us tonight -- the Srinivasan/Shipman clan, Toni Duval, Andy, Jason and Lisa from Evolution Project, the Glagowskis, the Fritzers, the Meuniers, Katy, Vinnie, Cris, Willy, Ellen, Grimm and Jay, and everyone else who stopped by to see us. Pictures are coming soon! -- Liz

Little City Cafe -- 3.22.02

This was yet another great night with Evolution Project. The vibe was very groovin', and Little City is a great place to play. This was our last gig for a few weeks, and we definitely played our hearts out. Thanks to Ellen, Anne, Jesse, the Meuniers, Pharmedica folks and everyone else who came out to see us.

filler guys 1, 2 and 3 (a.k.a. Marc, Jut and Eric) Evolution Project put on another jammin' set. I thought I had seen their best stuff at Arch Street, but tonight they were on fire! People were dancing and having a great time. Sun, Marc and I even cut a bit of a rug tonight.

Special props gotta go out to Matt from Evolution Project, who entertained us after the show by eating a special lettuce/butter/pepper/egg yolk concoction at the diner. Hope your ride home was a smooth one. Can't wait to play with Evolution Project again!!! And look for us later in the spring when we debut some new tunes. --Liz

Jimmy's Seaside -- 3.09.02

Jimmy's was the place to be tonight. After a few tense moments waiting for our pre-show dinner, all was right with the world. The place was packed with a ton of great people. Thanks to all those who came out to support us, including our friends from the WWF, PRG and Conncept.

The crowd definitely grooved to our originals, and they also reacted favorably to our selection of covers. After playing out a bunch of times now, it seems that F.U. and Deny are emerging as crowd favorites.

Special thanks to Leah Dubie, the emcee for the night. She had everyone pumped up by the time we went on. And Saffron kept the crowd jumping with their brand of fun and rockin' stuff. It's always a great time to play with them (although we may be a little biased). Look for us at Jimmy's again soon! -- Liz

After the gig...

"Thanks to everyone at Pete's house party for throwing a great post-show bash. Special thanks to Jut who got his second wind after passing out in Marc's car. all you need for a great party! What a comeback! Also, special thanks to Marc who kept picking me off the floor to continue our beer-pong game. What are friends for? Here's looking forward to the next party! PS - Jut...sorry I tackled you on the stairs...and Sun...sorry we dragged your sleeping back outside (with you in it). No hard feelings."
      -- Eric

Thanks to everyone that made it to the show it was rip roaring good time rivaled only by the insanity that ensued at the after party. Kudo's to my Beirut partners and opposition alike. Apologies all around for any drunken babble, vomit stains, or any illegal actions as 4:00 O'clock on was a distant memory consisting only of images of sleeping bags, beer cans, fallen beer pong partners, and Chris Farley impersonations. Does anyone know where my boxers went? Keep on rawkin'!

      -- Fritzer

Arch Street Tavern -- 3.08.02

This was our second time at Arch St., and our first time playing with Evolution Project. It was definitely our best gig to date. The vibe was so great tonight! We caught a few people dancing in their chairs. The UConn game on behind us also fueled everyone's enthusiasm -- thank goodness they won!

GO SEE EVOLUTION PROJECT!!! They put on a killer set of funk and grooving originals. This is the beginning of a good relationship between our two bands. Our sounds go together well, and they really are a bunch of great guys -- and so talented. And be sure to check the Hartford Advocate for a write-up about the night. -- Liz

Cargo's Cafe -- 2.28.02

Cargo's is a great new club for original music, and we certainly had a ton of fun playing there. Saffron started the night off with some new originals and its new spin on old favorites. And Siment's Dave Novak added a touch of style with some new guitar riffs.

We played a ton of new songs tonight, making it our longest set so far! We rocked the house with our new sound, and the crowd definitely enjoyed themselves -- thanks in part to some free beer provided by yours truly.

Cargo's is one of the only places around making a real effort to support original music, so if you're free on a Thursday night, be sure to head down there and see who's taking the stage. The beer is cheap, and the atmosphere is great to hang out and listen to some tunes. -- Liz
